Blog Update November 20, 2009

Child of the Elves book 2 is in the creative stages. I love this part, it is called random chapters and intensive character creation. (This is where the author shuts the door and lets the magic flow from their minds eye to paper.)

In Book 2 the plot thickens... Child of the Elves is revealed to the entire lands of the Realm of Light and the battle is forged.

Old Wold English vs. Proper English.

What is old world English?
What is proper English?

Interesting debate, if I do say so myself.

What is proper English? Who decided what was proper dialect and what is improper?

Each region of the world has its own dialect, its own meaning to words that in the English translation is a different interpretation all together.

Debate: There are many different versions of what is considered "English".

Rationality: Depending on where you are in the world a word could be interpreted differently.

Translation vs. Intention:
When using old world diction, writing in plain English for North American books, conforming to proper English is challenging yet rewarding.

This is a subject that writers encounter daily. Unfortunately if you are writing for North American markets, a writer must conform and choose different proper diction.

Sincerely,

C.M. Lloyd.

Those that walk among us.

Those that have the ability to stand alone while in a crowd.

Interesting people who walk in a crowd that stand out from the rest and yet have no recognition for such abilities.

Have you ever stood on the outside of a crowded area and watched the people walk by?

If you have never had the pleasure of doing such a feat, my suggestion would be to try it.

It is so easy to walk past someone and ignore their ability to stand among us with individuality.

Passiveness or ignorance to the beliefs of others or their understanding of what is normal.

I met someone the other night, to whom caught my attention merely because they were walking in a crowd but yet their walk was much different from the rest and yet the reality was because they stood out from the crowd, they were more interesting to me then the multitude that walked in the same crowd.
Confused?

No matter who you are, where you come from, let no one make you conform to their beliefs or the ideology of what is normal for them.

What is normal for one will never be normal for another.

Individuality is what it is truly about.

To all of you who walk in your own accord, I applaud you.

Maude the Mystic by Author C. M. Lloyd Child of the Elves book 1 Elven Quest Trilogy

If you follow our twitter feeds at http://www.twitter.com/childoftheelves you would have read the tweets on Sunday July 19, 2009 concerning the most fantastic mystic I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.

I went to the shore last weekend. Wonderful time, DE. in summer. Now, to the story...

I had just arrived and decided to go down to the beach.
It was evening twilight... my favorite time of the day.

As I walked toward the ocean a woman caught my eye, she was laying on the beach in a half lay - half sitting position. The wind was blowing. The waves were crashing... you would have thought the night was perfect for her.

To me, I saw a mystic, a rare sight in the United States.
I was so caught off guard by her in the distance that I found myself walking in her direction.

As a author you wonder multiple things. Mostly you are obsessed with the particular story you are writing...

She was sitting - laying on the beach minding watching the waves and was ignoring others who were making fun of her and cracking jokes.

"To me, she was an awesome person, who lived the life of a mystic.
Her clothes were draping, her hair was long and withered.

Her nails were long and un-kept.
Her face shown the years and a history most would never understand
and a walk not many people would walk.
but, lying beside her was the most amazing staff that I had ever seen.

"Does your staff have a name?" I said, as I caught her off guard...

and I believe at first she thought I too, was making fun of her.
But of course I was not making fun of her, because to someone like me...
she was the most amazing person that I had ever had the pleasure of meeting.

When I repeated myself once more and asked her

"Does your staff have a name?" she shouted "I make them too!"

The smile must have gone from my left ear to my right ear... because she
still thought I was making fun of her. (it shows how cruel some people really are to others that they just don't think are "Normal".

By this time I think the 40 + people that were making fun of her when I had walked up
thought I too was making fun of her because they became quite and their comments faded in the wind as if waiting to hear what I was saying to her.

I simply smiled even wider and said even louder.

"I absolutely love your staff. I understand that you made it. Does it have a name?"

She belted... "Yes, No... I mean, it is a staff of
Power!"

"Yes!" ( I screamed silently to myself)
I finally cracked through her tough skin and now she realized that I was actually standing right beside her and that I was
truly speaking to her and that I actually thought that she was the most amazing person.

So, now I have her attention and of course the attention of about 40 people standing there and with the greatest honor I think I have ever had the pleasure of doing.

I raised my voice, looked her in the eyes and held out my hand in a gesture to shake her hand and start the whole conversation over.

"How rude of me, my name is C. M. Lloyd and I am a fantasy author
and I am honored to have made your acquaintance this evening."

She shook my hand back and as she left go of my hand I asked her,

"May I ask your name?"

I think she was afraid to tell me her name or even to belt it out loud and as I raised my eyebrows at her prompting her response, she finally said in a low voice.

"My name is Maude."

"Maude, It is very nice to meet you." I said with a smile.
"Your staff of power is exquisite. You have done a wonderful job in its design and for that I applaud you. From the stand point of a fantasy author, You, Maude are what we write novels based on."

I stopped at this point to allow everyone there the chance to soak in what was just said and what I was about to say. You could have heard a needle drop against the sounds of the ocean.

"You are the true life version of what I
envision when I put pen to paper.
I am honored to have met you and your staff of power, less no one here forget that without someone
as special as Maude and with the bravery to walk a life not like anyone here for she is a type of person you cling to book stores and authors for."

and the smile she had on her face was the biggest one I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing.

Remember to a fantasy author, real is real, but reality can blend to fantasy and fantasy can blend to reality... but in the end as long as,

We can stand on a beach and find a mystic woman who can become a character in a novel and turn reality into fantasy, I was truly honored...

That is the difference between a true fantasy writer and someone writing fantasy or even fiction.

I was and will always be, honored to have met her and her staff of power.

I ask that if anyone ever finds Maude on a beach or walking down the street or sitting on the bench...

That you smile and think "Fantasy."

Book Contest

Interesting Post:
http://www.childoftheelves.com has been running a contest.
"Enter Thy Name"
Elven Quest trilogy book 1 Child of the Elves.

I, C. M. Lloyd thought the idea of allowing enthusiastic book lovers the ability to name a character in an upcoming book. The ideology was to give someone the opportunity to name a character and in return they would have recognition for doing so. How cool would it be to actually be the person or as I would say ( The Human ) who got the chance to name a character in a published book?

The funny thing is, I also read blogs. Mainly I read blogs of literary agents and people of interesting back grounds but mainly that of publishing and book related blogs.

I read a blog from a up and coming literary agent and interestingly enough he spoke about
two authors who were actually auctioning off the chance to win the right to pay for the character's name.

So, if you want to bid and pay money to have the chance to name a character in a up coming book you can enter their contests.

I absolutely think that is absurd.
The economical conditions in the world and we are bidding and paying money to name a character in someones book when in fact children lay sleeping in alleys.
Homeless people compounding every day. Children sleeping in abandoned cars and starving each and every day and two very well known authors are allowing people to pay them in order to name a character in a book? Its a book!

It is a great concept... I have been offering that for almost 7 months now. Interestingly enough they started their bidding contest in May. Why charge someone? Why take food away from someone else just to make another profit.

The sad, sad thing is... the one author I absolutely adore. I think he will always be one of the greatest writers of all time. Sometimes what seems cool, might not be that cool in the end.

I guess it would be different if they were giving the money to a charity. But, really they are keeping it... oops did I say that out loud?

shh, don't worry I wont tell your...

What makes a Fantasy Author different than a Fiction Author ?

Fantasy based writing is very different from fiction based writing.
Although this industry is mostly opinionated, I believe that the following statement can clarify the difference.

Most fantasy authors have the ability to detach themselves from reality and stand in a special realm that they have created. A realm that is mythological or completely fantasy based.

My belief is that in order to be a true fantasy author, one that can put fantasy story lines to paper form must have the ability to be...

Naturally born with a gift to stand in a forest and watch it come to life. There is always a story to tell if you can only close your eyes and let the journey begin.

Why C. M. Lloyd ?

Why the pseudonym of C. M. Lloyd?

In honor of my father, who was brave enough and proud enough
to be as old world as he could be.

Child of The Elves Fantasy Author C. M. Lloyds Commentary on Her background.

I honestly do not mind telling you my background

* I grew up as old country as they come. A little farm in the middle of nowhere, where going to town on Sunday morning was a huge event.

Green fields, long pastures and a ample supply of wild life and imagination as natural born as one could receive. No cable, friends to drop by, nothing more than what it was.

My father was a farmer and miner.

My mother was a mother and as for I, The I was just me.

Valleys
, mountains, rolling hills, streams, gullies, trees, rocks, bushes, forests and a location that was secluded and a sanctuary I called home.

ανωνυμία

By: C. M. Lloyd

I was asked a very difficult question to answer, many times, too many if I do say so...

Who Am I and Why do I use a pseudonym C. M. Lloyd.

Why Do I ghost write?

* Quite Simple, I choose to be me. I choose ανωνυμία. I choose... Anonymity.

* I story tell and in the end isn't it just about my characters and their journey?

Why?

* Simply that, just why.
