Interesting Post:
http://www.childoftheelves.com has been running a contest.
"Enter Thy Name"
Elven Quest trilogy book 1 Child of the Elves.
I, C. M. Lloyd thought the idea of allowing enthusiastic book lovers the ability to name a character in an upcoming book. The ideology was to give someone the opportunity to name a character and in return they would have recognition for doing so. How cool would it be to actually be the person or as I would say ( The Human ) who got the chance to name a character in a published book?
The funny thing is, I also read blogs. Mainly I read blogs of literary agents and people of interesting back grounds but mainly that of publishing and book related blogs.
I read a blog from a up and coming literary agent and interestingly enough he spoke about
two authors who were actually auctioning off the chance to win the right to pay for the character's name.
So, if you want to bid and pay money to have the chance to name a character in a up coming book you can enter their contests.
I absolutely think that is absurd.
The economical conditions in the world and we are bidding and paying money to name a character in someones book when in fact children lay sleeping in alleys.
Homeless people compounding every day. Children sleeping in abandoned cars and starving each and every day and two very well known authors are allowing people to pay them in order to name a character in a book? Its a book!
It is a great concept... I have been offering that for almost 7 months now. Interestingly enough they started their bidding contest in May. Why charge someone? Why take food away from someone else just to make another profit.
The sad, sad thing is... the one author I absolutely adore. I think he will always be one of the greatest writers of all time. Sometimes what seems cool, might not be that cool in the end.
I guess it would be different if they were giving the money to a charity. But, really they are keeping it... oops did I say that out loud?
shh, don't worry I wont tell your...
